Harrison Compound

2015

The 1.6 hectare Harrison Compound, situated in the heart of Pasay City near what used to be the shoreline, has had a long and interesting story. Before WWII, it was the home of an expatriate. After WWII, it was purchased by a local family. The family built another 20 houses in the compound, occupying some and leasing out the rest to US Embassy expats in the 1950's and 1960's. Time stood still until the 2000's, when several art galleries and furniture shops began renting some houses, creating a vibrant community with an artistic atmosphere. In the 2010's, five of the houses, including one of the three main houses, was leased to the Henry Hotel. One of the main houses became the lobby and restaurant while the four smaller houses were connected by a long covered walkway and converted into hotel rooms ans suites.

The structure, electrical and plumbing systems were upgraded while the original finishes and design were restored. In inserting the long, walkway, several courtyards were created and integrated into the existing fabric without diluting or sacrificing the original design intent. One of the old tenants, Eric Paras, decorated the interiors. The landscape design made use of the original mature Acacia trees.
